Katy Perry..........................Katy Perry original name Katheryn Elizabeth Hudson, (born October 25 1984 Santa Barbara California U.S.) American pop singer who gained fame for a string of anthemic and often sexually suggestive hit songs as well as for a playfully cartoonish sense of style. Perry's initial efforts at fame in the mainstream were unsuccessful, with two distinct record labels signing and then dropping her before the release of any music. Capitol Records however released Perry's EP Ur So Gay in 2007. The track that was the title was a jolly and playful track that garnered only a small amount of media attention. I kissed a Girl, a confident ode to her sexual curiosity that is set to a hard-edged electronic pop beat, made a bigger impression later. The song was controversial in that critics had a problem with it for encouraging same-sex relationships and also argued that the song depicted a sexually explicit story appealing to male fantasies about sexuality among females. But the mixture of polished and titillating melody helped I Kissed a Girl become the top-selling single in multiple countries powering the album sales of the Boys (2008). Hot N Cold's witty and lively second track was very popular. The album Perry created for herself has sold over 3 million copies across the United States.
